Alba. We don't know the origin or age of this rose but we do know that is really lovely when it flowers in summer. The blooms are set on reddish stems against grey-green foliage. They are sweetly scented. softest pink, open and cupped. Red hips follow the blooms. Tolerant and hardy.

China. This is such a pretty rose bred in France in 1902. The almost single blooms are shades of soft orange and pink highlighted with red. And oh the perfume. Flowers from summer to autumn. Lovely. Assume named after Zoe Talon AKA Comtesse du Cayla and mistress of Louis XVIII.

Damask. An enchanting old rose that became known around 1848 but is certainly older than that. The fully double purple blooms have an exquisite fragrance. The new foliage has a bronze tinge to it that contrasts nicely with the bright green, more mature leaves.

aka Kazanlink Damask. A very ancient rose used extensively in Bulgaria for attar of roses. This automatically tells us that the perfume is deliciously delightful i.e. this rose is very fragrant! Duchesse de Montebello We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future Centifolia. A chance seedling classed as a Centifolia but some say it is a modern hybrid. No matter the heritage it is a truly beautiful rose with pink quartered blooms that have a strong sweet fragrance. The blooms appear in large clusters for a long period but do not repeat thereafter. C1940.
Fantin Latour We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future Hybrid Perpetual. This rose would have to be one of the nicest striped varieties with semi-double blooms of pink and crimson. The blooms appear from mid-summer through to autumn and are nicely fragrant. Light green foliage, vigorous and upright. France 1921.
Ferdinand Pichard We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future Hybrid Musk, Shrub. Medium, semi-double, apricot blooms in large clusters with an open bloom form. Mild, tea fragrance. Blooms in flushes throughout the season. Bred by Rev. Joseph Hardwick Pemberton (UK, 1922). Very disease resistant. Francesca We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future Rugosa. A robust Rugosa with large, heavy petalled, double, purplish-red flowers with mauve highlights. Beautiful strong clove fragrance. This rose has beautiful red hips that form after the flowers have finished in late summer-autumn. Vigorous, hardy and easy to grow. From the Netherlands. 1905.
Hansa We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future aka The Shell Rose Bourbon. The slender canes of this lovely old fashioned rose are long and willow-like. The rose pink blooms are medium sized, perfectly cupped and fabulously fragrant. Repeats well from summer to autumn if treated kindly. From France 1872. Sometimes called 'The Shell Rose'. La Reine Victoria We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future China. Rich, deep black-red, semi-double flowers with pronounced golden stamens and a nice fragrance appear more or less continuously throughout the summer. A medium sized bush with few thorns. Nice glossy foliage. France 1859.
Louis XIV We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future aka AKA Madame de Stella Bourbon. The petals of this lovely rose are perfectly arranged to form very large blooms that are double and shaded a rich rose pink. An exquisite fragrance delights the nose, the relatively thorn free stems delight the gardener. Tall, vigorous and will bloom generously throughout the season. 1851. Louise Odier We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future Moss. Beautiful double, fragrant blooms of rich pink with a hint of purple and grey. Very free-flowering throughout summer. Nice dark foliage, the light 'mossing' is also dark green. Best lightly pruned immediately after flowering. From France, 1853.
Marechal Davoust We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future Bourbon. A very beautiful old rose with cupped blooms of palest silvery pink touched with white, especially at the edges. The blooms are sweetly scented. Repeat displays throughout the season with a final flourish in the autumn. Relatively few thorns and long slightly lax canes. From France - 1878. Mme Pierre Oger Not available This rose is an old favourite of mine and many other NZ gardeners. Often found thriving in older gardens. The white flowers are very fragrant and open from long pointed buds. A profuse flowering rose throughout the summer. Generally hardy and tolerant. From Northern Ireland - 1910. Mrs Herbert Stevens We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future aka AKA Parsons Pink China China. This important heritage rose has been cultivated in China for centuries and was introduced to Europe around 1750. It has been used extensively as a 'parent' breeding rose. Small semi-double blooms of pink that fade as they age. Nicely fragrant with light green foliage and few thorns.
Old Blush We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future Gallica. Large fragrant flowers that are fully double appear throughout summer and are set against grey-green foliage. The blooms are a rich purple-crimson tone with fiery red centres. Strong upright habit and a good tolerance of poorer soils. Suitable for a robust hedge. From England around 1848. Orpheline De Juillet We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future Rugosa. This beautiful rose has a rich fragrance which is considered to be one of the best in the rose world. Large, double, bright red flowers which darken towards purple in the hot sun. Dark green bushy foliage and an upright habit. Originating from France in 1901.
Parfum De l Hay We are not expecting to have this plant in the foreseeable future Rugosa. The pretty pink blooms on this robust Rugosa rose have serrated frilly edges a bit like a Dianthus. The name 'Scabrosa' refers to the roughness of the handsome foliage which is clear green with interesting veining. The summer blooms are bright cerise pink offset with golden stamens and are followed by big fat red hips. Nice sweet fragrance. Robust and vigorous. 1950.
